Who doesn't need a plethora of birthday cards each year? I think this little red, white and blue gem will be making its way to a July birthday recipient within the week.
As promised, this is another Lori Boyd image. You already know that I love her digital stamps, so what more can I say? You can see them all by clicking on her name or by using the link to the right.
This card idea started with the background paper. It is actually just a scrap piece of white cardstock. I inked up an embossing plate that had tiny lines on it. I ran it through my Big Shot Express and then did the same thing again - but ran the paper through perpendicular to the first lines - making this tiny checked pattern. The paper now has a fun texture AND color.
The vibrancy of this paper led me to the bright red on the dress and bow. I paper pieced both and then colored in the rest of the image with Copic markers. I typed the sentiment before I printed the digital image.
I am not sure if you can tell, but I took an additional strip of the checked paper and matted it in red and then adhered it to the background. Even though it is the same pattern, it gives the card a more dimensional look.
I diecut the image and mat using Spellbinders oval and scalloped oval dies and just added the bow. Done!
Am I pleased with it? I think I am!
I will be back tomorrow with an entry into this week's Summer Card Camp color challenge. Hope to see you then.
